Description

Based on author Heng Ou’s own postpartum experience with zuo yuezi, a set period of “confinement” in which a woman remains at home focusing on healing and bonding with her baby, The First Forty Days revives the lost art of caring for the mother after birth. “A great read, especially during the second half of pregnancy. . . . Includes pantry and shopping lists to prepare beforehand, as well as step-by-step instructions for making everything from bone broth to body salves. It discusses how to approach relationships, setting guidelines for visitors, and asking for help and support from family and friends.” —Mother magazine

  • Our Story

At Grace & Joy, we believe clothing should do more than just look beautiful—it should make you feel something.

What began as a small, family dream has grown into something far more meaningful. My mom built this store with heart, creativity, and a deep love for helping women feel confident in what they wear. She had an eye for beauty and a gift for making people feel seen.

In a matter of hours, everything changed. My mom—who was also my best friend—became suddenly and critically ill. While navigating life as a new mother, I stepped in to carry forward what she started.

Today, my sister Lilly and I continue her legacy together.

We work closely with artisans and small family makers around the world, many of whom my mom and Lilly met while traveling through Southeast Asia—building relationships, not just sourcing products. Every piece in our store is thoughtfully chosen to reflect that same spirit: effortless, beautiful, and made with intention.

Grace & Joy is more than a boutique to us—it’s a continuation of her story.

And we’re so grateful to share it with you.
